I see goal setting a little like playing Golf. Imagine you arrived at your local club to find out that the 18 holes you were about to play had no sequence or planned layout, there was no tee off points and no holes! How would you know where to start and where to aim and end up, let alone which route to follow and in which order? Imagine the confusion and panic!
Let’s say you did give it a go, how many random directions would you have to aim before you finally got somewhere? I am sure many Golfers would end up in the rough feeling quite frustrated. Exhausted by the time and energy wasted on numerous failed attempts at hitting the ball in a direction they were not even sure was right. At the same time incurring unexpected unnecessary costs on lost Golf balls. I am not a Golfer, but to me that’s not a great game of Golf by far!

When it comes to life and setting goals, I feel it is pretty much the same as playing Golf. Its strategic and takes planning, practice and clear focused attention. You need to know and understand the environment, the layout of the 18 holes, which direction the fairways flow, where each tee off point and hole is.
The aim is to then reach each of the 18 holes one after each other with as little effort and strokes as possible.
Now this sounds more like the way to play Golf to me.
Learning the simple tools and how to put them into place to focus your energy in the direction of your life plan and vision will give you the ability to stay committed and on track. Understanding where your weaknesses and strengths lie is also key to successfully achieving results. Along with the awareness of what your intensions and visions are about, this is the WHY behind it all.
Knowing that goals are not set in stone and can be changed, updated, edited, refined and defined as your priorities change, is another key factor to ensure you allow yourself to start setting goals, as it takes off the pressure to have it perfected from the start. Did you know that you can even add new goals and drop others along the way? It’s your life, your goals so you always have the choice.
All successful people set smart and achievable goals and see themselves reaching their destination too. They know how it looks, feel, sounds and even tastes. All successful people have limitations but what puts these people aside from the rest is the right attitude, belief in themselves, the ability to be flexible and flowing and adaptable along the way and they have a clear strategy and plan for their environment. They have focus and the mind set to never give up and they know why and what fuels them and follow through with passion.
All these small finer details and more are what give you the edge and keep you motivated.
